Book 1/100: The Christmas Cat by Maryann MacDonald
I said I wasn't above reading picture books for my 100-book challenge, and what do you know, I'm making good on it already! That's mainly coincidental -- I found out about this book around Christmas but didn't get it until the New Year, so it was pretty easy to make it #1.
This is a sweet little story about Jesus' childhood kitty companion. The illustrations are the best part, very expressive with lots of adorable depictions of Jesus and the cat. Mary, Joseph, and Jesus actually look Middle Eastern, which is also a plus. In a few places, the prose feels a bit clunky. But overall, a nice addition to children's Christmas book collections.
